Acts of Randomness

Colour Project

I decided that I need some projects and in June I went on a photowalk. I was struck by the fact that quite a few of my favourite pictures had a lot of yellow in them. So I decided I am going to concentrate on one colour per month for a year - randomly chosen. June is yellow, the allocation for July is blue. August's challenge is orange and in September I had the challenge of white. October was black, November Green and December's colour is grey. I'm starting 2026 with Brown (hmmm) but that means February gets to be all about purple.

December - Brown

Taken on one of my regular walks down to Braunston outside the Serendipity Art Supplies Shop - one of my happy places.

December - Grey

a metal sculpture against a grey sky. There is a central pillar and various waves above it

November - Green

a green field with blue sky and white clouds.

October - Black

a black door with black handrails in front, and one stone step. A light in the shape of a lantern with the number 78 on it is above the door, and there are three small panels in the door with three white downwards facing triangles.

September - White

a white building with two windows at the top, and one at the bottom with a brick chimney and another white building just showing behind.

Taken: September 2025

Taken in the courtyard of the Medieval Guildhall in Leicester on a lovely day out with my friend Fi.

August - Orange

an orange dahlia flower, cactus style with a yellow centre, seen side on with a green background

Camera: Canon Eos250d, 100mm macro lens 1/200sec at f/9.0 ISO 400

Taken: August 2025

Taken in August in my garden. I was hoping to take a lot of pictures this month, but didn't get out and about much. However, I do adore this dahlia that I grew from seed from a mix of colours and that actually survived the slugs.

July - Blue

a sign on a shop saying Voni Blu Ladies Fashion sticking out at right angles, with another sign perpendicular saying Blu

Camera: Olympus Tough TG7 1/250sec at f/4.9 ISO 100, 18mm

Taken: July 2025

Taken in July in Northampton - I actually know one of the people that own the shop - very expensive ladies clothing down a side street, but one of the few Blue photos that I actually like. I thought that I wouldn't have much trouble finding good photos of blue things, but despite being surrounded by NHS Blue I wasn't very inspired.

June - Yellow

Yellow writing saying Keep Clear in front of the bottom of a yellow garage door, with a puddle in front over a single yellow road line, with two yellow and black bollards and a reflection of the yellow garage door.

Camera: Canon EOS250d EF-S24mm f/2.8, 1/250sec at f/5.6 ISO 200

Taken: June 2025

This was one of the photos that I took on a photowalk in Birmingham that probably kicked off the colour project really.
